Stubborn Alarm Clock
about.
Stubborn Alarm is a behaviour-driven alarm clock designed to reliably wake the user by removing easy bypasses and enforcing physical interaction. The project focuses on designing a system that prioritises reliability and intent over convenience.
My work involved embedded software development, physical design, and iterative testing to ensure the alarm remains effective under real-world use, including power interruptions and repeated attempts to disable it.
challenge.
The main challenge was designing an alarm system that could not be silenced through habitual or low-effort actions. This required careful consideration of user behaviour, hardware reliability, and failure modes, including power loss, resets, and repeated daily use.
results.
The final device operates as a robust alarm clock that consistently enforces wake-up behaviour through deliberate interaction. The project demonstrates an end-to-end approach to embedded system design, combining software logic, physical constraints, and testing to shape user behaviour reliably.
